Carrera WOT microswitch
I finally did something to erase the shame of owning a totally stock 1988 Carrera Cab. I ordered and installed a performance chip from Steve Wong at 911 Chips. It is a very simple project and went pretty smoothly. I had it back together before long and it started right up which is a good sign. Right away I noticed that the hunting idle after a cold start was a thing of the past. I postponed the last item in the instructions which is to check WOT and took her out for a drive. Part throttle and low RPM response was definitely better. Up near redline and full throttle was, umm, I couldn't really tell. I was feeling pretty satisfied with the purchase.
Back at home I decided to check for wide open throttle when my wife was there to step on the throttle pedal (she loves to do that) while I checked what was happening on the throttle body. The travel was definitely OK. I then removed the WOT 3-pin connector and checked for continuity on the upper two pins when the throttle was wide open. Nope; and I didn't hear a click either. Here is a picture of the WOT microswitch housing on the passenger side of the throttle body. The three pin connector is the lower black rectangular connector in the foreground. It plugs into the black microswitch housing. ![]() I took a close look at the two screws that secure the switch to the TB and saw that it was adjusted all the way counterclockwise. There was a dab of yellow paint on the top screw which might have been the factory or a service tech's brand. I loosened the screws ( the bottom screw a bear to get at) and adjusted it all the way clockwise. WOT was now closing the switch. I then adjusted it slightly counterclockwise until it closed the switch at approx. 3/4 throttle per Mr. Wong's instructions. ![]() Time for another test drive. Now I was hearing and feeling a definite shift when going from part throttle to full throttle at higher RPM. I know everybody says how great Steve Wong's products are and I have got to agree. Just as important are the installation instructions that helped me to fix a setting that has been incorrect for at least as long as I have owned the car. Thanks Steve! I'm hoping this mod will give me a little help with my AutoX times. If you have a Carrera and haven't checked for WOT and microswitch closure then this is a simple thing you can do. I'm certain that both the chip and the adjustments have improved engine performance.

Also a good idea to make sure that the cable to the throttle body is properly adjusted and opening all the way when the pedal is depressed. Sometimes there is a little more power waiting with just a few adjustments.
