An idea for SC head stud problems...
 

I'm getting nervious about the head studs on my '79SC. Lots of other guys on this BBS have had to do a tear down and top end rebuild to get the broken stud out. My SC is going just fine, plus I don't have any money to spend on major drama with the engine so I was thinking would it work removing the ok/unbroken headstuds from the bottom row of the engine and replacing them with new steel ones. I think it could be done by heating the crank case end with a torch to break te loctite then unscrewing from the head end. It may be necessary to weld the nuts to the studs so that the studs come out not just have the nuts come off.

Your thoughts ???

My thoughts exactly... But then I sometimes think "a stich in time" etc.

And, if they are a bit fragil a very slight turn of the wrench might make them go ping.

Besides the fickle nature of 20-year old Dilivar, there are a couple of big obstacles in the way of your method working! You can't really get at the case metal around the studs because of the air deflector tin, and it would be some HELLACIOUSLY DIFFICULT stick welding deep down inside those heads/cam tower to even attempt fusing the Allen nut and Dilivar stud! Brain/spinal surgery looks to be quite a bit easier!
