ID'ing sensors on the #3 intake sensor bracket for Carreras
Which plug is the reference and which one is the speed sensor on this bracket?
Someone posted other that what I thought so now I am confused which is which. I can do a continuity test but that'd be too much work...:D Bentley shows in the "Ignition" section but only states the OEM labels. I do not have these labels anymore. |
I marked mine with red paint on the connection side for one and fished one at a time. Simple enough.
Whatever you do, DO NOT TWIST the sensors into the mount bracket at the Bell Housing. The sensors are liken to light bulb filaments and they will snap if twisted. Ask me how I know :D |
If replacing, that is fine. For diagnosing, it'd be nice to known which one you are measuring.
|
Take a look at the notch in the bellhousing. The sensor that reads the teeth is the speed/timing sensor. The sensor that reads the set screw in the flywheel is the reference sensor.
|
I am talking about probing the sensor at the plug that connects on the #3 intake sensor bracket.
|
I know that. But the plugs are exactly the same so you can't tell a difference visually. So go underneath to the transmission and look at which plug is pointing at which location on the flywheel area and trace the wires back to the male-female plug connections on the intake.
If you don't know which ones to plug in right now, just plug 'em in. Doesn't matter which goes where, as it won't harm anything if you're wrong. If it starts, they're connected right. If it doesn't start, then they're plugged wrong. Switch 'em and it'll start right up. |
The plug arrangement is set a given way on the engine side going to the DME.
Just curious which is which of the two. |
