Porsche Crest Winter Project? Front spoiler on '83 SC?

Need some advice here... I'm trying to decide on some winter projects. One of the things I've been considering is putting the front spoiler on my '83 SC because to me the front looks naked without it. But I have a few questions:

1. My SC is a narrowbody with no spoiler. To me a rear spoiler looks funny on a narrowbody. Does the front spoiler look out of place with no rear spoiler? Can anyone who has this setup post a pic? Bonus points if your SC is black!

2. If no rear spoiler, does having the front spoiler only cause any problems? I've heard that it can make the back end "lighter" if there is no rear spoiler. Can anyone comment on this?

3. Does the front spoiler cause problems with clearance? I'm more worried about speed bumps and I have already have a problem with a high curb at the end of my driveway. Hoping this won't make it impossibly worse.

Thanks in advance!

Not the best angle of pics and I can upload better ones later. She doesn't feel unstable at speed, but I did just purchase a ducktail rear spoiler and it has increased the feeling of stability from ~50 mph up.

I too have a dip type of curb on my driveway, like a water channel, that I have to go slowly over so as to not scrape the front, and there are other spots where I have to be a little careful, but it's not an inconvenience at all. It's usually place where you'd have to go slowly anyway.

I love the look of the front spoiler and agree that a 911 looks incomplete without one

Cheers,

- CraigD

A duck tail would look good or the modified one that the Singer car has.....best to mod front and rear at the same time.

Speed bumps are best negotiated at an angle as opposed to 90 degrees....slowing down helps too....

Its such a subtle change to the appearance that I would just do it, duck-tail or no. The slight difference in aero is well documented here on the site as well, do a search. From what I remember, most folks warn against adding a tail without a spoiler, the other way around is typically fine.

Also, I wouldn't worry about ground clearance unless you've got your car slammed to the ground, the chin spoiler is not *that* tall that you're going to be scraping it on everything. I mean, even if you do, its rubber, it flexes.

I had taken mine off at a time but put it back on because highway driving wasn't as stable as I prefer.

CraigD,

Thanks for the pic. That helps me a lot. Love the stance on yours. What size tires are you running? I've got 16x6 fronts and 16x7 rears and wondering if I can go up to 7's and 8's. My Fuchs are polished like yours but if I change out the rims I'm thinking about going back to the anodized/black center look.

Lot's of threads on SC wheels.....but 7s in the front with 225s and 8s or 9s in the rear with 245s is about the max you can get.

Here's my slightly modified 83.

Nahhh... just use 'em as ramps to catch some air like you're rallying!

Actually the Singer mini duck tail is a GREAT idea. Now you got me thinking.

A front lip spoiler and a duck tail made my SC nice and stable. Looks good too!
You may pick up another mile or so better fuel economy which is another overlooked plus.

Whoever did your graphics must be fantastic.

Love the old-school look. Out of curiosity, did you do anything special to your suspension?

I upgraded the T-Bars, SwayAway adjustable spring plates, poly bushings, Konis all around, lowered to 1/2" below euro height and used 85 Carrera sway bars....basic bolt on stuff.

As to the graphics.....I know this guy.....
