1978 3.0L engine- Is there a ECU for fuel injection

I am buying a 78 3.0l for my 1966 911R project. Is there a ECU to control any engine electronics or is it all mechanical?

I remember seeing a oxygen sensor on a 83 3.0l but the 78 3.0l engine I am buying has no oxygen. Is this normal?

What controls the cold start injector.

As always, thanks for any help.

It's straight mechanical, there is an airflow meter which gets pulled in the direction of air flow and compensates for increased airflow by adding fuel. It's mechanically attached to the fuel distributor. I don't know much about the system yet as I've only had my pcar for a few months but this winter everything is coming apart!

78/79 have no oxy system. cold start voltage is from the starter and through the thermo-time switch on the left chain housing cover.

Not sure if this is what your asking but there is a CDI box controller for the ignition system, and as John said no OX sensor. You can use an MSD 6AL or similar in place of the stock CDI. You will also need to go to the SC type hi-pressure fuel pump and (I assume) fuel filter/accumulator setup vs a 3PSI carburetor supply if using the stock CI system.

Thank you both for the quick reply's .

So the system is fully mechanical. That explains why the seller and I even after searching the complete car, engine bay , under the seats ect.... did not finding anything.

I know there are many that dont seem to like the original fuel injection on the 3.0L engine but I am going to continue to use it in my 66 R project for a while since its supposed to be a great running engine and the seller never had any fuel injection problems.

Thanks again

See if you can get the fuel system parts from him too! I'm considering selling my 46mm Webers so if you have issues.....

Thanks Gary,

The fuel pump is another good point I did not even think about, so I need a high pressure pump and also an accumulator. I am going to have to do some research on the accumulator since I dont even know what it looks .

Thanks again

It kind of goes hand-in-hand with the stock fuel filter so if you can get both and all the fuel lines that go with them it will make your life a lot easier..
