Reg,
I hope to be able to post how the 901 should shift very soon. I am waiting for the gaskets to put everything back together. I replaced syncros, brake bands, brake stops, and sliders on my tranny. I was going to replace dog teeth but they actually look really good. However, the slider for R-1st teeth were worn flat. Not exactly sure how the slider teeth are so worn and the dog teeth for 1st look good but they do. I also did my own test of wear on the sliders. I put the slider on top of the syncro/gear and measured the overall height. I then did the exact same measurement using the new slider. I was using a square so not real exact measures but there was a very noticable difference. The difference was due to wear on the mating surface of the slider where it engages the syncro. The wear allows it to slip over the syncro prior to complete speed matching resulting in grinding, that is unless I was careful. The worn teeth on the R-1st slider would explain why it was sometimes hard to engage 1st gear at a stop. I am very anxious to get everything back together as I expect it to make a world of difference in driving pleasure.
