19MM wheel lug socket...

My 19MM wheel lug "soft" socket has cracked up... The plastic insert has cracked right at the end of the socket. Pelican doesn't sell just a "plastic insert" replacement. I think one problem with the plastic insert is that there's too much unsupported plastic protruding beyond the metal socket. Does anyone have a fix or know where you could buy the plastic insert?

Glenn at Pelican says they don't last more than a couple of years, and no I've never used the socket with an impact wrench...

I don't think an aluminum socket is going to protect the finish on your lug nuts as well as the plastic will, however. If it makes you feel any better, my plastic one lasted about a month.

Dave,

I think the aluminum will be fine, I have BBS 3 piece wheels so the lug nuts are covered anyway... I ordered one of the ZDMAK sockets that Danny recommended, I'll keep you posted on how well it works.

FWIW,..I use a piece of plastic wrap inside the socket to protect the anodized finish on the alloy lugnuts.

No impact guns, naturally.

This tool is a compete POS - the pin that holds the inner aluminum sleve in place quickly breaks away from the outer body - mine lasted about two uses, and since, I have read many reviews describing the same failure . . . hard to believe that Pelican still sells this!

I looked for "lug nut sockets" on the Pelican web site and didn't find this socket... Live and learn!

Danny have you had good success with your aluminum lined socket?

Mine did that too after about 2 years/ dozen uses. The socket wall is soft so I drilled right thru it (and the Aluminum liner) and pushed a roll pin in so it is secured on both sides. Seems much better now, but it is a weak link.

So far, so good. I don't use it a lot, though...
