fuel pump housing?

I pulled the fuel pump from my 72 MFI, located in front of the left rear wheel. It was bracketed to piece of steel, but that steel wasn't attached to anything else, meaning the pump was just laying in the cubby. That can't be right, can it? How is the pump supposed to be secured? There are a few bolt locations in the area, but none obviously tie in with anything else.

If it is like my 1973.5 cis it is held to the metal plate with a hose clamp. The plate then mounts to the chassis with the rubber isolators, item 38.

There should be a metal type basket that's welded to the frame just in front of the torsion tube. The removable bracket on your pump bolts to that piece via two rubber pads. If the rubber pads broke the pump would just hang there with it's clamp and short bracket.
