				Powder-coating calipers?

Hello all i seem to remember a thread here not too long ago discussing the pros and cons of doing this ...but i cannot sem to find it. I bought some TRE boxster calipers for my 88 carerra here from a Pelican not long ago and they are a bit rough...would like to refinish them properly before mounting. is it Ok to PC? ..this car sees moderate DE track use..not hard core. Thanks for any comments Frank | ||

If i remember right it had something to do with the powder coat paint not dissipating the built up heat in the calipers ... i may be wrong but i'm sure somebody will chime in ! Cheers ! Phil

I think Phil is right on this one. I rebuilt mine recently and they were cleaned and replated but the finish wasn't perfect. I masked off the area around the pistons and gave 2 very light coats of caliper paint and they came up really nice. It could be worth doing something similar if you just want to make a cosmetic improvement.

If anything...I would recommend heat conductive paint for the calipers. No sense in trying to boil your fluid. Bob

Frank, I had prepared a set of Boxster calipers but never installed them, which i sold before going with a 996TT setup on my car.Mine were black and i cleaned them up real good, applied two light coats of primer and used Duplicolor caliper paint. They turned out real nice and i'll try to post the picture i took when i sold them. You need to apply zinc chromate primer because if you read the instructions on the can of caliper paint,it mentions that the paint does not adhere very well to aluminium surfaces ... Cheers ! Phil
