Whats this car really worth.

I love this car,and would like to buy it,its even local.....but I cant find support for these numbers. This is the third time I have run into a "porsche expert",or an owner that has a friend who advised them on price that"knows all about Porsches" that claims to have priced it well for the market.

Maybe I am missing something. I just want to find my car,and get decent value compared to the real market.....not asking prices,or some magazines price chart.

Here is the link'

1989 Porsche 911 Carrera, rare 3.2 coupe, only 70,000km, books/records

And for that matter,I would like to know if my pricing on these other models is correct as well.

Based on a clean driver quality example, with no major issues and records-no trailer queens,or race cars. Updates/rebuilds commensurate with mileage.

911SC-$10- 14k
Carrera 84-86-$13-16k
Carerra 87-89-$16-22K
Turbo-$18-28K

All of the above should carry a $1k premium for non sunroof, and I would expect to either see a slightly better car,or a slight deduction for Targa....?

Lets leave The Cabrio out for now.

Thanks

Correct me if I am out to lunch here

I don't like the cloth seats but he will get $27k for that car. Prices are rising for sure.

I would need to see a few more pictures of the exterior to offer an objective opinion...

Nice combo though

Worth what someone is willing to pay. It's not like a 2009 Boxster with hundreds for sale. My 2 cents

Should sell in the 25-28K range looks clean plus has Euro side markers and rear tail lenses. Are these stock for Canadian cars? or is this a real Euro? Does it have a O2 sensor?

First, is $33,800 Canadian or US?

Your price ranges seem to reflect what a BUYER would want to spend, not what a seller wants to list. If the seller is not budging on his price, it may not have been for sale long. So wait awhile, check back in 2 weeks... and probably be disappointed to find it sold.

Your suggested price ranges indicate you think it is worth $22,000. Have you seen 1989 Carreras in this condition selling for $22,000? I doubt they have been this clean. IMHO this particular car has several nice features: desirable year, low miles, great color combo, excellent looking interior and exterior, nice options. All of those add thousands of dollars to the value. So offer him $30,000. You guys will work it out from there.

After you buy it, you can take the whale tail off and sell it to recoup some money. Best of luck,
SCOTT

I like the '89, like it a lot. (Love the cloth.) But while some people will pay a substantial premium for low-mileage cars, I'm not one of them. Not to that extent, anyway. But 70,000km is darned low for an '89.

Regarding your price ranges for different models, your range for the '84-86 Carreras seems right to me. My car I bought last October was right in that range.

I havent seen a turbo for 18k. Think the 930s start at > $32k

Seems like a lot of money for a carrera but it does look like its in great shape

No that it makes much difference in these days, right?

Seriously --- if the mechanics are as well kept as the cosmetics --- my bid would be $27K.

Some thing to keep in mind that has been brought up here before. Low miles is not always a good thing. In many cases low miles means that the car spent long periods sitting and not driving. Although it may look great low miles can mean that the car needs new fuel, brake and oil lines and other maintenance of that sort.

It is a nice car and I agree with the 25K-28K estimate. The market has been heating up on these cars from what I have been seeing lately. Many of the people who bought them new have had them long enough that they are ready to move on, if they were not super attached to the car. If you can get the seller to move on the price it does look like a great car.

Regards
Dave

Also, don't forget that many carreras suffer from premature valve guide wear necessitating a top end rebuild. Mine was done at 75k miles, another issue to consider with such a low mileage car.

Ok thanks guys, this is good feedback.

I understand the "what the market will bear" thing, its universal. My price quotes are part what I would like to pay,and part what I have seen actually sell for.Keep in mind,my numbers are based on cars that are mid grade, not high end like the listing I posted. With respect to Turbos, yes, they will be in the $30's in that condition as well,or even $40's,but a driver quality car??

I think one has to separate the driver/beater/and high end/showcar with regard to pricing.

I agree that this car is worth the extra $$,but how much? I have seen very nice ones in the low $20's

And finally,I agree that low mileage is not always good, for obvious reasons.

I looked for a number of months for a mid-series 911, and purchased a clean '84 Carrera last year with 100k miles. Negotiated price was at the top end of the range you described for the car. I feel that your numbers are low across the board for these cars, at least ones that do not present with major and immediate mechanical and/ or cosmetic issues.

Good luck with your search.

I think that car looks great. You may look for a long time to find a g50 car as nice or nicer...especially local to you. Go look, bring cash.

Nice car- great color, looks like nice condition and I think his asking price is fair...If he is willing to sit for 6, 9, 12, 18 months or however long it takes to find the ONE right guy who wants a super low mileage G50 Carrera that is not red with tan interior.

That is a $25-$28K private owner sale car- $32K dealer car. $40K for a specialist like Sloan or F40 or Copley Motorcars. IN other words- If it were me I'd offer low $20s.

I really like what this guy seems to sell, despite the fact that I have never seen his cars in person, he really does find nice examples (from pictures).

Wow that is a nice car! In Vancouver I think it is worth close to that price, there is lots of money here.

I always find it funny that buyers always feel the price is way to high, then when they sell their own car it is in line with the car that they thought was to high, hhmmm always interesting, Kevin

It's not a $30k car.

It's a $25-28K car, however.

Funny that overall the car looks stock but it seems to have some RSR strut bar brackets welded onto the shock towers ... what's the point with a stock car ?

Certainly went through a lot of trouble for that as i'm presently doing that on my 89 but the car is esthetically nice although it's worth maybe between 23-27 thousand, not 33,000.00 dollars !

Cheers !
Phil
