3.2 Carrera Engine turns slow when warm
 

hi All,
fine day today [well cloudy but dry] so took the old girl out for a spin, started fine first time, and starter turned over normal, got to the petrol station, [about a mile or so] put some juice in, went to start it, and it was like a half flat battery, just about caught it, and it started [phew] anyway, went for a spin for a good few miles no other issues, but i darent switch it off again untill i got back home. anyway, any ideas as to what might be causing this, There is a new battery and starter fitted,so, i am a bit baffled.

Did the problem occur staright after the new battary and starter installation. If so I´d check the battery with a multimeter to see if its reading around 12.5V. If the battery is okay I suspect a faulty starter. Oh when the car is running the battery should give off around 14.5V. If its not your alternator is on the way out and your battery is draining

New battery and starter fitted before i had the car, so i suspect the hot start issue was the reason for changing both. Battery dosent drain when car is being used, even with lights on etc.

+1 on the alternator. I had the same thing happen a few years ago returning from a race at Watkins Glen. Got to a service station on the NYS Thruway and returning to the car, no start. Natch, it was dark, so I had the added load of the lights. My son gave it a push start and we limped it home. The diagnosis was bad alternator, replaced it, and no more problems.

Might want to check that the ground strap has good contact at both ends. Resistance there causes all sorts of problems.

Update!!!
well, decided to start with the basics, so, i first removed the battery earth strap and completely cleaned the strap and the body work and re-assebled it, then i removed the body to engine strap, this i fear is where the main issue was, anyway, i completely cleaned the strap and bodywork here too, i also applied copper slip to the connections, before re-assembling things with new nuts, washers and bolts etc. While i was there, i checked the starter motor connections and fitted new nuts and bolts here also.
Good news, turned the key to start from cold, wow!!!Engine turned over effortlessly and started, so, i ran it untill it was fully warm, turned it off and left it for a minuite or two before attempting to restart it, now this is where i initialy had the problem, but, no issues this time, engine spun over effortlessly as when cold and started right up.
Anyway, just thought i'd share my experience here, just incase anyone else has the same issue, also, its worth checking things even if you dont have any initial issues, i am sure many here may find improvements in starting, and charging by simply spending a few hours checking and cleaning these items.:)
