Carrera Exhaust Tip Removal?

My black exhaust tip is beat up.... I want to switch to chrome to match the new chrome H4's I got.... anyone know the best way to take out the tip w/o butchering it? TIA

I believe all of the factory tips on 74-89 911s are crimped on. I doubt you'll be able to remove it cleanly as it is designed to NOT slip over the end of the "inside" pipe.

My stock tip was beat and the only way it was coming off was to cut it along the side and then peel it off.

+1 Tearing it off with vice-grips works too. Getting it started is the tough part.

so, does the tip slip over the outside and inside of the exhaust pipe?... its really hard to tell where the tip ends.

The tip itself slides over the end of the pipe coming out of the muffler body. A new one would need to be tapped gently over that pipe and then dimpled to keep it stationary.

I went with an aftermarket tip so I have no first hand experience with re-installing a stock style tip.

Here's a link to a factory muffler which shows the tip clearly.

I used a small dremel cut off tool and cut it off. Mine was pretty chewed up so it wasn't going to slide off easily. The dremel worked great and was off in a few minutes.

I used an air chisel\hammer with some PB Blaster and it came off "like Butta"
