I did not know there was a Difference in the Foot Box Area!
On Friday on my way to Toledo Ohio, I met Bob Kontak. Too good of a person for Ohio to have! He has a Cherry Paint job 1981 Porsche 911sc "TARGA" and we traded cars so he could see how my Electric Power Steering felt!
I must have pushed my left foot into the floor (Trying to push in the clutch Pedal) 4 or 5 times before I realized that the Targa Foot Box Area is about "1" Inch Narrower than the Coupe! Is that just me? Has anyone else experienced that?? WHY is that???

Vincent, I would bet the farm that it has to do with the need for wider sills in order to provide the structural rigidity needed for the lack of a top. You will notice that the Targa(and Cabrio) models specify different part numbers for carpet kits.

targas and cabs, being open cars, have more reinforcements in the chassis than coupes. takes away some of the footwell space.

targas and cabrios both have smaller foot box area due to additional chassis stiffening. notice how the aftermarket foot boards (from rennline, etc.) come in different flavors for coupe and targa/cabrio.

Vince is a great guy. Wish we would have had more time. Met Vince's wife as well. Peggy. She is a terrific lady. Wish my wife could have come along to meet up as well.
Vince and grew up so close to each other in Toledo that the first three digits in our phone number were the same. I never noticed the difference in the foot well as I guess you go from less room to more room if driving a coupe. |

15 years I have owned the Targa and never knew. Pays to swap cars with fellow enthusiasts and compare.

The dead pedal i installed in my targa was shaped specifically for Targas (maybe cabs too but can't remember)

![]() BTW, after thinking about it, I even Remember when Oregon was Incorporated which was of course before you were Born ![]() ![]() Today I was at Great Eastern Shopping Center and on the way out, would you believe that the "Woodville Surplus" store just before that Over pass is STILL THERE?? Opened in 1949 and I used to Walk out there from Yondota street which I also measured and it was 1.8 Miles! (and here I thought I had walked 3 or 4 miles each way!!) ![]()
