Does anyone have pics of a two-tone interior?
I'm redoing carpets, seats and door panels. Just wondering what it would look like if I used tan/natural leather for those bits, with the remaining stuff being black (dash, steering wheel, door sills).

Well, it's your car, but for me, I know first hand that I'm not a big fan of the two-tone look. My car (apparently) came from the factory with all-brown interior. But one of the POs recovered the seats and door/quarter panels with light ivory leather. The leather is soft and nice (albeit hard to keep clean), but neither my wife or I like the two-tone look.
I will admit that I do get positive comments from many, however, so it is definitely a personal taste thing. At some point I will revert to all brown—either by recovering, re-dying, or even a trade if someone semi-local was interested. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Is this what you're looking for?
![]() I love the look. I really like the modern version of it... ![]() To me the key is to keep everything below the dash / belt line one color, with the dash and door toppers in the black. Some interiors start getting crazy when they try too hard to add more color and texture below the dash / belt line. ![]() I sometimes wonder what it would cost to redo the dashtop in my terra cotta interior to look more like this... ![]()

Thanks guys. That gives me a great idea of what my car would look like if I went with that.
I used to really dislike the 2-tone until I spent some time with a 3-series BMW that had it, and it grew on me. I really like the tan/natural leather look, but I don't want to replace my entire dash, door pieces, etc.

Accent colors can be more interesting than singular although it is very subjective. Using three different colors, placement and degree of contrast is a big consideration.
I have an early targa, white with black interior and am considering introducing tan carpets with tan/brown and white houndstooth inserts on the seats, seems to my mind to add some warmth, black and white is just that, stark. Trust what you see and don't try to say that you'll learn to like it, you probably won't. |
