How did you install aftermarket satellite radio into Targa?
I just bought a new satellite ready radio for my 1985 Targa. I also have on the way the Sirius tuner to make the new radio satellite friendly. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to put the tuner? And most importantly, where did you mount the antenna for the sat radio? There’s not much metal on the Targa roof to put the magnetic antenna. I was thinking about putting the antenna somewhere in the area where the hood and windshield meet. I’d love to hear your suggestions!! Jamie |
Exactly what I did with the antenna for my 87 Coupe. Its on the front trunk lid in the center. Picks up fine. Misc. stuff for connecting an I-pod is all piled in the glovebox. You could shove the wire into the windshield gasket and get it up high in the front pretty easy. Probably no better with reception.

I have my Sat Radio antenna and GPS antenna mounted side by side on the dash. This pic shows the Sat antenna only prior to adding GPS

You can actually place the antenna under the dash's plastic portion and it will pick up the signal just fine.
I did that for my GPS, no issues and very non intrusive. Remove center vent and you will see there is just enough room to squeeze it in there. There is the OEM metal cut out for the old school speaker. Just make certain it it not under the metal portion. |
I mounted the antenna on the metal part of the windshield frame with double sided tape. it stayed for years untill I removed it, the wire is hidden beneath the top seal. I found that if I mounted the antenna inside the car the reception was not as good so this was my solution.
this is the only pic I could find that showed the antenna; http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317293557.jpg |
Thanks guys!! The good thing is that if something doesn't work, I can always move it.
What about the tuner itself? Did you find a particular area under the dash that worked best? |
