What is this???

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what this is? It is in the front (driver's side) of the trunk beside the battery on my 1986 911.

Thanks in advance,
David Wilson

Function (if one doesn't know what it is, he may not know what it does either):

It blows outside air (from a hole in the body behind the front bumper) over the front 'chin' condenser via a hole in the floor of the trunk.

Comes on whenever the A/C is turned on.

Look under the front valence to see the condenser above a protective screen.

If the blower does not come on, it greatly reduces the cooling of the A/C. Sometimes (often) the motor burns out.

Thanks guys! Here is why I ask. I had to remove it in order to get my battery out, and there was a gasket of sorts between it and the hole in the trunk floor. The gasket got messed up when I pulled the blower off of the trunk floor. Do I need to get a new gasket or should I just screw it back down as is? If I need a new gasket, can anyone point out what gasket I need from Pelican Parts? I looked but couldn't find it. Thanks a lot again guys!

It's been a while since I had mine out, but IIRC the gasket wasn't anything fancy. You could just get a sheet of some rubber or neoprene type gasket material and make one. You probably do want to seal it reasonably well so that water can't get splashed in the trunk.

Also, if you are using the AC, add an inline fuse to that fan if it hasn't been done already. Without one it's a fire waiting to happen.
