Von shock - street use?
All,
I'm putting my winter project list together and I want to replace, mostly with stock, all of my 31 year old suspension parts and pieces. I currently have Belstein shocks that do need to be replaced. Money aside, are Von shocks worth the upgrade for a street only car? I've yet to read any old posts about anyone NOT loving their Von shocks and PM'ed a few but most, not all, seem to be maybe a bit more on the racing side..... Input greatly appriciated!

I have Vons and I use them in the street and on the track. No issues at all. I cant tell the difference between the Bilsteins and the Vons. A rebuild is a great idea.

OK, thanks for that information. Question though, new shocks are relative inexpensive, can rebuilding them be that much cheaper? Maybe there is more to it like valving (I really have no idea what I'm talking about here, just throwing around terms I've heard!
) or something else? Who rebuilds them?Again, thank you for the responses!

send your bilsteins off to elephant racing or rebel racing and have them revalved to match your torsion bars - that's your best solution.

I am very pleased with the Von shocks.
In my case I had installed an Elephant Racing track suspension with the exception of new shocks. I could not afford to do everything at once. The old shocks (Koni yellow) were totally unsuitable. Installing a shock, matched to the rest of the suspension, made a night and day difference. It was a very clear example of how the suspension needs to work as a system. The Elephant Racing web tools are very useful in this regard. I went with Von because I did not have Bilstein cores.

It's fairly inexpensive to have them rebuilt and re-valved, which is what I'd do. I'd also go through one of the shops like Steve Weiner and Elephant Racing(ELEPHANT RACING Home Page) with 911 experience they will customize valving given the weight of your car & torsion bar size.
Understandably, shops like to keep their valving 'secret'.... If you go with Vons, don't toss the bilsteins, they have value as cores. |

Very good, rebuilding it will be. I've already spoken with Chuck at ER so I'll let him do it.
