Ok.. I am tired of afixiation... (alright wheres the spell check)... every time I run my heater (ie oil smoke inside cabin). So I am ready to toss the whole thing away and hook up an early gas heater. What I need to know is the fuel injection's high pressure requirement 'gonna cause any problems? I know the possible fire hazzard, but hey.. I owned a corvair.
Thanks for any help Tim in Sac 77 911s |

Hello
Eberpächer and Webasto do deliver suitable units ( Well don´t know US marked ). You also can try to find a NOS unit. In germany the units must have a TÜV test every 5 years. If the CO from the heatet air is to high then you have to replace the unit. This is the reason why they bacame rare after some years non usage they rustet or didn´t worked anymore. Fueling is no problem as you use the returnline and most units have a own pump to run via a timer. Grüsse ![]() |

Might be cheaper just to get some electric socks and plug them into the cigarette lighter.

Thanks Roland,
It a Webasto, My car looks like its on fire when I use my heater because of the oil smoke inside and outside of the car. So I think the gas fired will be best for me. At least I won't see the fumes that will kill me. Thanks again Tim in Sac |

Your nuts ! The FIRST thing i removed from my two early 911's was the gas heater. Something about lighting off fuel with a burner, 1 foot from the gas tank, was just WAY to scary for me! Quite a few of these have gone up in smoke because of this!

Hello
You guys watch to much hollywood movies and beleive in to much bullsnow. The first 911 S came with headers and the seperate heater in front. So Porsche could get FIA papers for that setup witch made the 911 more wight balanced and more succesfull on rallys. To shift the wightbalance even further they mountet the BN3 units ahead off the 100 L fueltanks only divided with a thin aluminized cardboardwall. I never had heard that a additional fuel heater caused any problems with fire or let explode cars. And those things do have shorts or have burner failures and can get very hot. Only if some stupid mechanic overrides the security devices to make a cheap fix those things will start fires or can explode. But this isn´t like hollywood. It just makes a loud bang and all get filled with smoke and the smoke will press out the oxygene and so no fire will start. It is a similar risk to have a cheap lighter in you pocket starting a fire or explosion and noone even thinks about that. Grüsse ![]() |
