First time brake job...dust boot question...rebuild time?
Well I just finished the drivers side and I am heading down to finish her up...wow very easy...can't believe people pay a mech to do this...
Well questions. The dust boots are pretty thrashed on the calipers...rebuild time? Something I can do myself (tie rods, clutch, heat exchanger projects under my belt) Or buy the rebuilt ones??? My brake pads came with metal plates...I am guessing backing plates for the pads...are these necessary? It was a tight fit without these and my old ones did not have them... Also when do you change pads.,..mine were in spec...barely (3mm back, 4mm in front) but I just changed them cuz I have been unhappy with my braking... Thanks guys MJ |
Hello
Search the Pelican tech tips pages. The dustcovers should be in good shape to prevent dirt and moisture coming in the system. renewing them is some kind of easy if you have skilled fingers or the correct tools. Howver if they allready have dirt inside you have to "rebuild" them witch is mainly disassemble, clean, check and reassemble. If your pistons or the caliper allready show wear you better go for the caliper in trade solution. Grüsse http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/yltype.gif |
