don't buy bilstein shocks in the uk until you've read this!!

obviously its not cost effective to order these from the state's so i've been emailing various suppliers in the uk and i seem to have found a good cheap source for them.

the first price i got for sports shocks all round for an '86 was £658 inc. vat + post.

i have just got another price of £386 inc. vat + post!!!!

i quoted part numbers.

what a HUMUNGOUS difference.

i am just trying to confirm before i post the suppliers name etc.

didn't want any of you guys going and blowing money unnecessarily

When I was in the UK I went with SPAX fully adjustables after a guy I trusted said he would pick this particular SPAX over the Bilstien hands down. They were cheap, and the guy was right... very, very good shock. I got them through one of the chains there who's name escapes me at the moment. Look into it you may be happily surprised as was I.

IMHO, there are no shocks better than Bilsteins. Konis may be as good, but NONE are better...than Bilstein. IMHO.

Heh heh heh, working at a car dealership has its advantages. I got my 4 Bilsteins for 3800 danish Kroner (including 25% VAT). In Euro that's about 511. Don't know how much that is in english Pounds though.

Mikkel - about £320 i think! mmmm, not bad.

ok, i am still waiting for confirmation from the more expensive supplier to explain the difference or whatever ( i find it hard to believe how huge it is), but for those of you who can't wait here are the emails i got back:

http://www.type-911.co.uk

"From: "type 911"
To: "Richard & Michelle"
Sent: Monday, March 18, 2002 3:59 PM
Subject: bilstein sport shocks for '86 911 3.2

Dear Sir

P36-0112 £134 each
P36-0013 £134 each
P36-0114 £134 each
B46-0169 £146 each
B46-0975 £146 each
B46-0180 Not available

All prices plus VAT & Delivery

regards

Matthew"

and from

http://www.specialistcarsltd.co.uk/

"richard
number b46-0975 is bilstein sports rear s/abs
the price is £79.95 each

matching front insert bilstein type
this will fit a boge leg

the price is £84.50 each

they are available from stock
all above prices are subject to v.a.t @17.5%"

can anyone spot anything i am missing here??

anyway if they're that cheap i'm having a set very soon

incidently specialist cars advertise in 911 & porsche world and look like a good source for parts - i've never used them before

I am not up on exchange rates, but here in the states I can get the sport shocks for around $155 each U.S. and tax free. Shipping is free in the continental U.S., but probably not overseas.
What is VAT, some sort of tax?

$155 equates to around £100, add to that 17.5% tax, god knows how much in import duties, plus postage, etc, etc, etc.

i'm gonna have to make a trip over there one of these days, and i'll bring some empty suit cases.

well looks like type911 found a new supplier!!

i'll order them later today, so i'll find out then if someone f&cked up.

Blisteins

I got mine for 531 euros here in Helsinki, Finland. But I almost have same advantage as Mikkel in Denmark.

FWIW always found Specialist cars good on parts and servicing prices, was very happy with my service when it was done there and they were very good to deal with.

My only knowledge of type911 is at the PCGB meet. Mostly rather expensive parts with a few offers and people on the stand who had no idea what they were talking about - does anyone really think a 2 out silencer will fit without modifying the valence? - I walked away at this point.

type911 are my nearest parts supplier. but i had to laugh at your comments.

the prices they quoted were in line with others. specialistcars seems too good to be true. but we shall see, i've just emailed my order to them so watch this space

i'll be the happiest bunny if i get them for the price quoted
