Help with my power windows

A couple of days ago the driver's side window came off its track (thunk). Today I took the door apart (see photos below) which included unplugging the two toggle window switches. After jiggling the window for a while I realized that I had to lower it all the way down to give me the necessary access and space. I re-attached the window switches and . . . nothing. Nothing worked. Not driver's side, not passenger side. Fuse is good.

Am I missing something? Do the switches work independently - can one work without the other being functional?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I suspect you crossed some wires when you reconnected the switches.
Do you have a wiring diagram for your year model?

Try jiggling or disconnecting/cleaning/reconnecting the wires on the motor (in the door) itself. Mine gives me a problem every now and then and it won't work. This usually gets it working again.

Thank you. Tomorrow morning I'm going to re-check the wire connections on the toggle switches based on Gerry's diagrams. I will also work on the wire connections to the motor. I will keep you posted on success/progress.

Thanks again

stumped

I checked and re-checked the wire connections. Window motors still don't respond. Question: if one switch is improperly wired will that cause both switches to stop working - are they linked? If they are not linked, then the fact they are both malfunctioning might indicate something wrong further up the line. I keep going back to the fuse but it is still ok.

Hi, i would make sure that the Relay controlling the power Windows is working. I usually replace it with a known working one, to test that the Relay is not the culprit. Good luck.

Fuse?

Had same prob on my 88. Big pita. Bentley man has good diag for win switches. What color wire to which numbered blade on back of switch. Be sure to use diag for your year. Check relay. Don't know what year you have. Earlier have round relay in trunk. Later have square relay behind drivers side dash. Easy access for both. You can run the window motor up or down using battery charger on 2 amp and wires with alligator clips attached to motor blades. Reverse to change direction.

Relay?

Ok, I was not aware of a relay for the windows. I must admit that I am not impressed with the URO relays. I replaced all my relays (the black round ones) and my red fuel pump relay a week ago. Pulled the old ones off and put new ones on. The new red one did not work well so I went back to the old one. One of the black ones, the one in the engine compartment, the top came off like a bottle cap without hardly any pressure - just downward pressure to plug it in.

I guess I have to look at the manual to identify the relay for my windows.

Will let you know the outcome . . .

BAM! it was the relay

It was the brand new URO relay I installed several days ago. That's three brand new bad relays in a row . . .

Many P-Owners have incurred out-of-the-box failures on many URO products.

To call URO products garbage, would be a compliment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of the above sounds soooooooo convincing, until one is stranded on the freeway, or on some back road
with a newly installed uro relay.............

Sorry, but everyone in the industry know that ISO certification is all marketing mumbo jumbo crap....

not sure if they are all connected but i know on my SC if all of the wires are not connected on the driver side (both switches) the passenger window will not work. chances are good that they are like the old christmas lights - remove one wire and they all stop working.

Correct:

Here's the 84-86 CKT which, with the exception of wire color, is identical to the SC's.
