Help with more info on a 1977 911 with 3.3 Turbo
Hello,
I am almost wrapping up a deal for a 1977 911S with a 3.3 Turbo engine / G50. The current owner doesn't know too much about it's history, engine documentation etc. If I left the VIN here, could someone help me track its previous owner(s) to find out more about this car and info on the motor please (when it was built, who built it, HP etc) I will leave pics below as well. If anyone has some insight or feedback please feel free to chime in. This car has been sitting for about two years. It does start and run though will need to be cleaned up and gone through, any advice on where to start when going though this engine after sitting so long? Thanks in advance. It appears to be a custom twin turbo based on the last couple pictures. Certainly not a factory format 3.3 header and single turbo system. Likely does not have heat from what I see.
The plumbing looks a little messy but may be fine, though I would be far more concerned about the condition of the motor, and in particular compression and leak down. Unless of course, the price is really good and you won't be daunted by having to dig in. Old turbos seem to get abused with overboost - detonation etc. edit, also if you are not aware, this motor has been converted to efi. It does not have cis injection like the original 930 3.3 motors. I cross posted over to the 930 Turbo forum for more feedback. Last edited by Jim2; 10-02-2011 at 07:49 AM.. |

Custom twin turbo and intercooler, carerra 3.2 intake, EFI maybe?
Alot of mods. Still stock ignition. Could be a fun engine, but certainly not original Would have it inspected and leak down test performed.

DMVs don't give up owner's information.....(most) not all, old owners don't care to talk to new owners.

Thanks guys for all the helpful info, yes it has EFI. I am not particularly interested in bothering previous owners with calls and questions, more interested if someone recognized it? knows of the car etc. I know that is difficult from just pictures of the engine alone.
Current owner says potentially 400 - 500HP. From the way it looks (visible mods) is that realistic? It does start and sounds healthy though I'd still need to go through the basics at first, plugs, gaskets etc. I will post more pics as I get them. Thanks.

Depending on which turbos were used and the condition of the rings, valves, etc, it should easily make 400-500hp at the crank. Someone put some serious thought and money into the mods on that engine, so I'd be surprised if they didn't go more for 400-500hp at the rear wheels.

Definately the 3.2 manifold - this is custom and someone spen $$$. Alot of guys going to turbo/efi use that manifold. I know a builder in Colorado who uses these on his turbo builds. He uses other manifolds too, but the car he let me drive had this manifold on it.
At a mile high in Colorado, it made 350 all day long on pump gas. He said with better fuel, even more. Don't know what it made at sea level. It was WONDERFULLY, seductively fast... And yes, gentleman, I took it easy on the 915. ![]() angela

I replied to your message you sent me. I know that the car is a "Bello" special. I believe the car had two programs. One was around 500 the other was around 700 HP. I saw it run and it runs like a bat out of hell. Very fast. Everything else I sent in the PM to you. Car is very nice. Enjoy it. Tony is as nice and honest as they come.

That VIN appears to be from a 1978 RoW model 911 SC coupe? I don't have a VIN decoder handy...

Interesting car with a phenomenal amount of $$$ spent. I assume you know that. Fabricating that custom intercooler is an easy $2,500 alone.
How does it run? What EFI? Any more pics of the car? Looks like the car has been sitting for quite some time
