Its a 12 mm. I did not have to use air gum to removed them. The trick is to be totally square off as the bite is very shallow. I could ship you mine but thanks to Post Canada it would be cheaper to buy one.

Hi JJ,
I ordered a 10 and a 12 from my local auto parts store, they're only $4.00 each so i'll be good to go. Thank you for your consideration and the info! I know you did an engine drop recently, any tips while i'm there ! Did you ever get your car back on the road this Summer ? I have a crankcase gasket kit on the way so i'll be replacing whatever seals and "O" rings that come with the kit ... Cheers ! Phil

Hey Phil
Yeah, finally got her on the road late August. Start on the second try, what a relief. The sound of the SSis mated to a 2In/2Out was worth the wait according to the guys behind me ![]() Well might biggest tips is, resist the "while you are in there impulse" it could be expensive...If you leak from anywhere, its a good time to fix them, especially the Oil Triangle of Death (crankcase breather, thermostat & the idiot light. Good time to change the Oil Idiot light, under $5. Since you got a G50 transmission, the drop is straight down unlike with the 915. Take a lots of pics and notes as you might not remember everything when the engine go back in. Have fun JJ

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but if any Canadian peeps are looking for the tri-square bit/socket Princessauto (Canadian version of Harbour Freight) carries 4 different sets from $17. to $30.

I have nice German ones (Stahlwille) but I was in a pinch
once and got some from my local parts place. They don't have a socket that you could use a ratchet on. Instead they have just a straight shaft; think of an Allen key without the bend. You hold the non-triple square shaft end with a socket. They are apparently made of a structural cheese (soft). They rounded over after a couple uses. Not recommended.

If you do a lot of VW and Porsche work you need:
8mm, VW and 914 CV's 10mm, 996, flywheel and trans (I believe fly might be 12mm) 14mm, 911, flywheel, VW T4 auto trans flywheel (TC mount plate)
