Trunk - Where does the Spare Tire Compressor Go?

I'm just wondering where the spare tire compressor is supposed to go in my '74 trunk. It seems that everything has its place and fits like a glove until I get to the compressor and its case. Does this get strapped down anywhere?

Thanks......Vern

I'm not sure its right but mine just sits loosely near the spare. There is not a strap or compartment that I know of.

Good question. Same one I had way back then. T-O__o>

funny I was cleaning out the trunk on my 89 this weekend and had the same thought. It really does not seem to have a place as far as I can tell.

Not sure there is a specific location for it.
Once I removed the AC condensor and fan, then blanked off the holes, I put the compressor up front in that space. I do not hear it moving ever, so I am happy with that spot.

Mine fits inside the space-saver tire and rim combination.

I made the tray to store it and it keeps it in one place.

I use a rubber bungee to attach it to the spare.
If I had a nice looking Fuch spare I would come up with a different solution.

Some good ideas but...

Were did "Porsche" put it? Surely they had a proper place for it.

I would also like to know where the toolkit goes.

I have a small overnight bag that I keep the compressor, some tools and 'essential' detailing products. If I was 15 years younger and single there might be a few other things I'd keep in there too!

Just to go off on a slight tangent , the Porsche 917 carried the same BFG space saver tyre as mine (and probably yours) though in a different end of the car and with no compressor in the trunk ;)

I read somewhere Porsche engineers invented the space saver principle.

I tuck mine into the plastic trim which seems shaped to fit, nice and snug.

Tire inflator..........

I use a small bungee cord to strap it vertically to the bulkhead in the trunk. That keeps it from sliding around and out of the way.

I like this one the best! I will strap mine down and be done with it.

Thanks...Vern

If the trim is shaped to fit then that's probably the OEM location.

i thought it fit loosely in the trunk, never thought about trying to see if it snug against the front lip. i took mine out and replaced it with a 12v bmw motorcycle compressor that one fits nicely in the same area as the tools and jack.
