Guide to each 911 iteration

I've added the book, "Original Porsche 911" by Peter Morgan to my Christmas list. But until then, is there a good online source for a breakdown of the 911 model, at least by engine type? I want to learn about each model and what really makes them tick.

In a year or so I'm planning on selling my BMW 2002 and Porsche 911 SC Targa in order to fund a single Porsche 911 (Coupe) that I will be proud of and hopefully hold onto for a while. I'm aware of the different models that existed and the displacements of their motors, but that's about it. In particular, the one type of longhood I can afford a rougher example of is a 911T, but I know nothing about them other than they run a 2.2 liter motor. I'm not the type of guy who requires the fastest car on the road, but as long as it handles as well as my 2002, then that may be up my alley. Other than that, it looks like an SC, Carrera, or 964 are the other top contenders in my price range, and there are plenty of those to choose from it appears. Nothing wrong with that selection either. I'd end up doing tasteful modifications (i.e. suspension and weight removal) and make it my own perfect car anyway.

Anyway, thanks for any good resources you can point me to.

Try this: Pelican Parts: 911 FAQ Version 2.2

Or this: The Porsche 911 Evolution: an overview of the Porsche 911 in images, facts and numbers.

Believe it or not, Wikipedia has a pretty concise history of each model with some photos:

A good book is also "The Used 911 Story" by Peter Zimmerman.

Thanks for the great resources. Very useful.

plumb4u2 - Nothing really wrong with it. It's a great car. It's complicated, but basically I want a coupe. When you just want a coupe and have a targa, it kind of eats at you.
