short shift question
 

I just purchased a Weltmeister Short shift unit from the Samba site. and the top of the shifter plate looks much different from the factory unit ( ie. no springs or lock out) . Could some one please tell me if this is missing something or just a different set up. another question is can i just swap this unit with my old one without any coupler adjustments. any help would be appreciated, Thanks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319159896.jpg

If that's a 915 gearbox shifter I believe you have the wrong kit.

What year 911 are you working on?

The WM kit utilizes the factory top plate,springs, etc. Just a WAG but the kit may be for a G50 gearbox.

can I use the top plate off my original shifter and put it on this assembly?

I don't think that top plate you show is part of the kit from searches I have performed.

i guess im a little perplexed as to what i recieved , i got the shifter selector unit , and a weltmeister plate . even if it is not a short shift kit , i was wondering if i could replace my sloppy factory unit with this. It does not have the reverse lock out plate , i guess that concerns me. by the way the seller said it came off a 930 slant nose. doesn`t that use a different shifter? the seller advertised it would fit on a 915 transmission. ... Sounds like you didn't receive any instructions . . .

The WM shifter is longer from pivot point to ball. Combined w/the WM plate (which goes under the stock housing -- that's why you get 5 longer bolts w/the kit), raises the shifter pivot point relative to the shift rod in your center tunnel. Moving the pivot point (fulcrum) further from the ball reduces the throw. See here for more information: Seine Systems > An Overview of 915 Shift Housings

However, a 930 transaxle is 4-speed, not 5-speed; top plate of the shifter in your picture looks like 4-speed to me, though I'm no expert and have never driven a 930. I have read that even though the 930 and 915 shifter housings are similar (identical?), the internals are quite different. WM lists several different part numbers for various models/years here: http://www.weltmeister.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=412. Perhaps you have a part number you can refer to in order to determine which one you actually bought?

That's a 930 shifter for sure. Short shift kit I had installed (don't know the brand) was a longer lower arm and a little aluminium block, which lowers the L-bracket in the tunnel to get the correct alignment of the shift rod again

dont try and re-invent the wheel - return it and get the right one....

where are you located? maybe you can hook up with someone and have a shifter building session over beers - I for one would offer to help if you were near me, I am sure there are others who would do the same
