Pelican Delivers!! ;)

How cool is this? ...I ordered a new MOMO Mod-7 because I wasn't thrilled with the reach to my Prototipo. I was anxiously awaiting delivery and checking the status in Pelican's tacker and I see that it was on the Fed Ex truck today! Alas, when I arrived at home there was no box...so I log on and check the Pelican boards to see what everyone's up to. In the other tab, I still had the tracking window open and when I switched back I see the status changed to DELIVERED! I rush to the front door, open it and VIOLA! New MOMO! How cool is that?!

Hi Craig -

It's nice when a plan comes together! Can I ask if the leather wrap is suede and is the seam stitched? I'm looking to replace my steering wheel because the seam, which is not stitched, has a big ugly split along almost its entirety. I was thinking a stitched seam might not split as badly. I only got a few years of service out of this wheel - a Sparco. It has a nice deep dish like your new wheel which I like and which is my one hesitation w/the Prototipo.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom, as an old school A-Team fan, I too, love it when a plan comes together.

The Mod-7 is leather wrapped (there is a choice when ordering for suede or leather) and there is no sewn seam like on the Prototipo. It's very well made and feels really sweet with the perfect reach. I loved my Prototipo with the sewn look, but I'm only 5'7" with long legs so the reach was a bit too far for my comfort...especially when having to make fast corrections with almost straight arms! As you know from your deep dish, the signal/wiper controls are longer reach for the fingers, but a worth while trade off for better car control.

I hope that helps! It's really a well made wheel.

Cheers,

- Craig

Just did the same change as you and for the same reason - from Prototipo to Mod7. Looking forward to try it out in the spring!

If either of you are looking to get rid of your prototipos I'm interested. PM me.

I'll make sure I contact folks who've shown interest in my Prototipo. I'll want to drive with the new wheel a little bit, just to see if it's what I need compared to the Proto with a spacer (which I haven't tried).

I'll make sure to check in with interested parties first, if/when I decide to get rid of the Prototipo.

Both are really excellent quality steering wheels!

Cheers,

- Craig

I have a Prototipo with a spacer (1" - not sure) & I love it. The reach to the turn signal stalk is a bit long, but you get used to it very quickly. Love my Prototipo - it just looks so "right" in the car.

Jaskas -
I ended up trading my deepdish Sparco wheel (similar to Craig's Mod7) for a Prototipo. I currently have a 1/2" spacer, but it's not enough. There is an 1 1/4" spacer at the bottom of this page: PelicanParts.com - Accessories > Steering Wheels > Momo Steering Wheels that I might try. Alternatively, I was thinking that a quick release would do the trick too. It's just money. . . . : )
