1983 911 COUPE, no engine or trans = VALUE NEEDED?

Hey Fellas,

I have an opportunity to purchase a newly painted '83 all interior/exterior fixens, sunroof and wheels, no engine or trans though  from my Pop's friend.

How much is it worth, if no evidence of rust or damage?

PM me if you care not to post your 2 cents.

TIA,

Jim

I'd probably start with what the car would be worth if it was complete and subtract from there. If you think it is worth $15k complete then take of the price of a clean motor / trans plus the cost to have it installed (even if you are doing it yourself) minus somethihg for the hassle factor and you might be close to a number. I think you'd be down to $7500 or less before you know it. I'd consider $5k a great deal and $8k too much.

Look for a 3.6...replace the loop cooler with a carrera cooler and you'd have yourself a fun ride but it would definately cost more than dropping in a 3.0.

Id agree 5-7k max

You guys beat me to it - I worked it too hard but came up with the same answer:

Looking at LA Porsche www.911pcars.com - Their prices have not been updated for a couple of years but I think reputable salvage yard prices are fair vs. scouring the US for the handful of engine/trans you could get cheaper.

SC engine - $4-5k
915 $1.5-2k.

Say $6,000 & $1000 for searching / finding / vetting and transport

Mate two parts and install (the grunt work) - Half of shop rate ($1,500?) = $750 + CV gaskets and fasteners that should be refreshed after apart as well as other stuff - add $200 - Total lump in car = $1000

De-bug and major engine service labor (valve adj / tune up / fluid and filter change / CIS pressure test & vacuum leak vetting) $1,000 including parts.

"While you are in there" stuff should not be counted - eat the labor and parts as to do this you are getting better than used

Brand new CV joints
Brand new clutch & PP
Breather/thermostat/oil cooler gaskets/pop-off/tensioner upgrade

So.....
Big parts = $7,000
Install Eng/trans $1,000
Tune up and de-bug = $1,000

Value (individual seller) of nice 83 SC coupe freshly painted - say 7 out of 10 in quality - not a show car but looks good with minimal filler and 125k miles - $13k

$4k - With 9.5/10 paint $6k.

Interesting, that is what I was thinking for the rehab, 9-11K ( 911 no pund intended :D )

Count in some labor if you have not to be fair to yourself - that is not ripping the seller off.

Good Idea since I will do most of the work myself. Good Grief I must be nutz.

Maybe build a race car??? with a 3.6??? Hmmmmmm or just flip it.
