Pertronix and MSD
Hi everyone,
I installed the MSD box and the car ran ok. But I kept having a little problem with the points staying in adjustment. Thinking that I had a problem with the points I installed the Pertronix 2 ignition unit. The car did run but now I am having a voltage problem. Maybe I wired it wrong. Can someone point me in the right direction? Maybe explain how you wired it up so I can compare it to what I did. This is the problem-----I'm suppose to have 12 volts with with the key in the on position.....which I do. Turn the key to start and the car fires but then stalls. With the key still in the on position I have lost my voltage to the box. But if I disconnect the wire to the box and then reconnect it the power is back. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :( Thanks |
Tadpole' I wired my MSD and Pertronix on my 1976 911s just like MSD said to. Heavy Red to Battery ( on mine i ran it the starter ) the Heavy Black to ground, Orange to + coil, Black to - coil, Red to Red in Pertonix in Distributor, White to Black in Pertronix in Distributor. Hope this helps.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319236538.jpg

Hey 1976TN porsche, thanks for the info. That is pretty much the way I have it. Could you clarify the red wire for me. The MSD says for the small red wire to come off of a switched 12 volts. I used the wire from the ignition. 12 volts in the on position. This is also the wire I spliced for the red wire to pertronix. Does this sound about right? Thanks again

Tadpole' I have mine hooked to this red wire right here.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319244947.jpg

Hey TN.....is that wire going to the MSD box or the red pertronix wire. I have the switched 12 volts going to the MSD box AND the red wire of the pertronix.

This is an old post, but I'm currently wiring the same setup. Does anyone know if the above is the correct wiring? Thanks in advance!
