Price Check: 1989 Cabriolet Silver Anniversary

1989 Silver Anniversary Cabriolet

- 134K Miles, all receipts and original window sticker (but I have not seen them yet to know what the maintenance has been)
- No Rust or Body Damage
- 16 “ Chrome Fuchs the owner says are original, I can’t find any record of chrome wheels from the factory, seems most were painted the body color
- Recent valve adjustment at a reputable shop

The interior and carpets appear to be significantly worn and there is one crack on the dash just in front of the steering wheel. Engine looks dirty and there is cheap tint on the windows. Owner reports it does not leak oil but the case is wet from use of synthetic oil.

I’m going to see it on Saturday, asking price is $18K and of course I’ll get a PPI (I’ve read Zimmermann’s book). Car will not be a daily driver and I’m not interested in racing or driving events. Just a cool convertible for Sunday drives. Any feedback or things to look out for when looking at the car is appreciated!

Fuchs never were chrome they are anodized, most owners later on chromed Fuchs for some dumb reason. For $18k you can get a car for less miles and in better condition

Way over priced. Glaring wear items and detail are lacking..... interior looks like it was owned by a lowend pimp with hygiene issuse. 12K car.

Thanks, FenderGuy. Any thoughts about what price would make this car a good deal? I know its hard without a PPI, but I'm thinking about going in with a offer price in mind, and subtract any issues discovered during the PPI. I have to figure out what I will offer before investing in the PPI. I'd probably be willing to offer $15K and if he accepts go and get the PPI. Does that sound like a resonable offer? Hope he is not lurking here...

I agree, I wouldnt pay over 15K with the mileage, and the interior looks rough.

GL!

I have the same car. I paid $25,000 for it 4 years ago but it only had 42,000 MI and the interior is in excellent condition comparing the pictures. I would say I paid on the high end of fair and have no regrets. I have had nothing but a great running car and tons of fun. Doing my own maint. Doing AutoX and DE's. It's awesome, I love it.

Mine came with the tail which I believe was the standard for the anniversary addition but I am not positive? My wheels are definitely not chrome. Maybe it's an anniversary addition but needed body work or replacement parts?

Keep in mind you can always buy a cheaper car and end up putting more money into it than originally anticipated. I would start Low. It's a lot easier going up on your offer than coming down.

Or, pay a little more for a different car you are more comfortable with.

Chrome...per posts on this list, screws up the forged wheels due to the chrome process. Dechromed wheels aren't very desireable. Not to mention a difficult process.

I would agree with what the board is saying on the car..I'm looking for another 911 myself but I am taking the time to get the right cab and the color combo I want. Lots of cars out there to waste your $$$ on this car. Whats the point in buying a 911 than putting another $4k to refresh the car?

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I decided to pass and the car sold to someone else. He would not tell me the final price but I suspect it was quite a bit lower than his asking price. The search continues!

Of course price also varies by area. You have chosen to not share that info, which limits the advise. It's a personal issue, but I'd never own a car with white interior; looks Kinda shabby as it ages, eh?

If that's a current photo, I'd say the car is located pretty far north; probably Canada? That all has to be factored...

Those wheels are a killer, for me.....they need to be stock (in my opinion)..

Share, with us, some of the receipt items (service) over it's history,..a bit of detailed provenance....

I've an '89 SA Edition Coupe....the PO had the steering wheel recovered at some point,...it was (nicely) done in black,...me, realizing a bit later that the stock version matched the interior (ARGHHHH)...but I was OK with it (and still am)...I bet that light color wears easily on a DD.....My drivers seat needs a rework.......and her dash was cracked from day one,...dummy me (at that time) had no clue as to what a replacement dash would cost.....still: OK with the cracks until I figure out what I'll do about it........doesn't seem to affect that sweet engine, at all (hehehe)...had I known about the cost of replacement (NOT recover), I certainly could have negotiated downward $1500 on the part PLUS the labor to install.......(as the car was purchased for about $20K,..(yes,..I sleep quite easily at night)..

BUT,..if I had KNOWN,..................

Best of luck to you,..remember: PPI!!!!!!!!
