Juan,
Sorry to hear about your valve guides and worst of all, cylinders! How do you know they are not Mahle's? Do they only have 9 fins and not 10? What are you going to do now? Upgrade to 3.3 or 3.4 P&C's immediately? What year is your car? I have an '89 Model, which I'm told ARE Mahle's, but I should double check this as soon as I get my car back. Good luck!

Hello Merv,The car is a 88 i was told that many of them from 87-89 came with this cylinders the easiest way to tell manhle has 11 fins the other 10,is not that they are bad just less cooling for what we want,my new tunner was very surprise that they hold the abuse he also mention if he was doing the first step he will never done it with those cylinders, I guess we have to check with the OTHER guys,we are installing 3.3 pistons and cylinders i wanted 3.4 but $$$$$$ was a big issue,i remenber you mention those heat shields for the valve covers if you don't have manhle i think it be better to let them open but if you install a exhaust temp gauge you can monitor the abuse, hope this helps.
see ya juan

Juan,
Todd once wrote: "P.S. On 1987-1988 models, Porsche had gone to Kohlbenschmidt for p/c's and they were cast and alusil. Very low quality. These engines are not recommmended for any upgrades due to reliability factors. Some of these cars did come with the Mahle's, like the 1984-1986 and 1989 models all did, and you can easily tell by jacking up the car and counting the number of fins on the cylinder... If it has 11 it's a mahle If it has 10 it's not ." I have an '89 Carrera, so according to Todd, I have Mahle's. I'll need to double check when I get the car back. However, if you are running without the protective/sound tray under the engine, AND a secondary oil cooler, this should be fine as it provides improved cooling. I don't think they're that much of an issue if they just have one fin less. Unless of course the entire cylinder is composed of a different material to the Mahle's? Oh well, if you have been running fine since your Stage 1, then it shouldn't be a problem, I would think.

Has anyone contact info for Eddie Bello? (phone number, mail adress, etc.) A friend of mine is buildning drag-911 and wants to get in contact with Bello , mostly for exchanging information etc.
There are very few people who drag-race 911's compared to other kind of cars , so expirience in this area is minimal. You can send me private message. Thanx.
