993 GT2 flares--where to get fastners?
I installed 993TT brakes on my car, and had to move the rear rims out to clear the calipers, now the tires hit the fenders, so my body guy will be fitting and installing a set of BB GT-2 fender flares shortly to finish my GT2 look conversion.
Where can I source the correct bolts/fastners other than the $175 kit from FVD? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319564121.jpg |
I bought 10-32 stainless steel button head (allen) machine screws (1" I think), nylock nuts, and oversized washers from McMasterCarr. Total cost was probably about $25, maybe less. The black oxide screws will rust so get stainless.

I used stainless button head security( snake eye) bolts on my 934 tribute...

Don't people use Dzus fasteners anymore?

Doing a search I found Thatcher's car, I think these are the snake eyes security bolts that I will try to source

Yes that is where I got the idea. My body guy sourced them without much trouble. I think 3/4 inch length would be plenty...

As a note of interest Jerry Seinfeld pulled up in a black 993 GT2 with the same flared fenders at Rennsport 1V. I heard Canepa(I think it was him) say they had worked on that car. It also had a Canepa license plate trim on it.

I hate the dimple caused by tightening down the fastener on the flare like on Thatcher's car (pic above), it would be cool to support the underside of the flare and add "body to it" spreading the load to avoid the dimple and eventual paint cracking.

I saw that GT2 at Canepa's compound. It was gorgeous.

Here's one from our neck of the woods.. belongs to a buddy of mine, budge96 It's built on an 18k mile TT and was also converted to 2WD.
Back to the question... he used the staineless snake-eye bolts as well. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319641116.jpg |

Onboost, I think I may have seen that black beauty at Rennworks in Camarrillo?
KevinP73, I believe I need about 30, but my flares should be here today or tomorrow to count how many are needed, PM me with details. |

Here's a pic of what cargraphics has to bolt the flare on:

I don't understand the attaraction to "snake-eye" bolts. I have used them for car stereo stuff for security purposes and they are a pain. They require a special bit and the bits break easy. Button head allen bolts are simple, cheap, and probably what was used on the original GT2's. Are you really afraid someone is going to steal your fender flares?
