Very nice! Personally, I would sell it and try to raise enough to buy the right thing. Hate to see rare pieces "modified."

Forget about modifying it , nothing you can do to make it suit your purpose without fear of it flying off at high speeds

No, an '86 also had the new style latches. I think that 1985 was the last year for the old style.
