Post ball joints

I need to know the difference between the
ball joints of '68-'71 911's and '72-'89 911's. Are they interchangeable? I need to
know because I own a '71 914 (duck) and I
want to get the struts, hubs, rotors from a
'74 911 to put on my car.
The '70 to mid '72 914's used ball joints from '68-'71 911's, and the mid '72 to '76
914's used ball joints from '72-'89 911's.

Will the struts from a '74 911 bolt to my
'71 914's ball joints? If not, will the later
ball joints thread into my a-arms?

I believe the difference is in the bolt which is used to clamp the strut to the balljoint, the earlier is a regular bolt, the later is more a wedge design without a bolt head. They do not interchange. Fitting the later ball joint to the a-arm will not be a problem though

Hello

Like said the bolts where changed and also the cutout in the ball joints. Bolts have a round cut out while the wedge has a V cutout.

Mixing is to avoid.

The reason was that the new style is simpler to mount and more secure.
