Angry Who QC's these Bosch Reman. Alternators?

Seriously? Received my "refurb" alternator last week to install last night. I get the old one all disassembled and started to install the new one into the fan housing... Half of the studs are bent. No worries, a little delicate bending and they're all straight. I start to spin on the nuts to hold it to the housing and... why aren't these going on? Tried another nut... No, same prob. Another nut on another stud... No dice. Upon close inspection, all of the top threads on the studs have been peened!

Go over to the tool box, get the pneumatic grinder and take the top 1/8" of all the studs.

Who the hell QCs these things?

Waste of time... To top it off I forgot my new fan belt at home, so I'll have to swap that out this weekend too.

But on the bright side I found why my old generator wasn't charging... The VR was going (11v output) and the shaft was binding inside. Turning by hand was not working so well. Now I just need the return address for the core. Maybe I should send mine to them in the condition I received this replacement: half the studs bent and all the threads stripped.

Next time have your unit rebuilt by a reputable local repair shop. It will be cheaper and you will get back your original, unmolested unit.

bosch quality is sorely lacking these days. most of the alts have boogered threads. pisses you off when it's mostly installed and when you go to install the finned cover on the back, the nuts won't start. grrrr! i check them right out of the box now. ever seen the new SR68X mini starters you get now? the solenoid is shorter and the battery cable barely reaches it.

Good option.
I know mechanics that won't use rebuilt/remanufactured. I may be one of them soon.

I recently had an issue with a dead alternator on a customers Chevy Astro.

The NAPA rebuild had bearing noise.

Found out from NAPA that the rebuilder doesn't replace the alternator bearings unless they are obviously noisy with a hand spin.

Ridiculous. I don't have the tools to rebuild a whole alternator. Maybe next time I'll just drop the coin and buy a Paris Rhone (lasted 25 years, can't be that bad) or the upgraded one. I just hope THIS Bosch alt lasts 20+ years.
