Question More headroom, 911SC

I ran in my first competition event in the SC on Sunday. Everything was great except for the lack of headroom with a helmet on.
I was so scrunched up that my right knee was wedged between the steering wheel and the shifter when it was in first. Luckily the only time I needed first was at the start. I had to reach out for the steering wheel which was definately not an optimum driving posture.

OK, finally to the question part:
I need to do something with my seat to get more room. I have some money, but I also have several things to do to the car that will use up that money so buying an expensive race seat is not in the cards at least for several months.
I know that 914 seats are very short in the bottom. Can anyone give me a good reason not to set up a 914 seat with 911 tracks so that I can use it for track events only? I can take out the bottom cushion to get plenty of side support in one of these seats.
My car is in the street stock class, no cage, so no requirement for seat back bracing that I know of. I can get a 914 seat for almost nothing.
Anyone solved this problem in another way that didn't involve cubic dollars?
TIA
