picture posting question

I finally bought a digital camera and want to post pictures, but first attempt failed due to file size of photo. I've since realized that settings on my camera were wrong, (too large resolution and too much compression). Here is my question: on my camera, (Canon S30 3.2MP), according to manual image will only be under Pelican's 100kb limit at the smallest resolution(640x480) and least compression setting. This equals approx. 84kb file size according to book. Are all of the high-quality photo-postings I see here at or below this resolution, etc.?

Sorry, I know this has been discussed before, but could not find it under "photo" or "pic" in search. TIA.

If you have photoshop, or similar, you can re-size your photo. It doesn't matter what resolution the camera is at as you can always downsize. Make your pic, say 8" X 6" and 72 dpi. A monitor can't show any better resolution than 72dpi. So if you save once at full resolutio ( for printing onto paper) and then save again under a different name at 72dpi and as a JPEG you should get a reasonably small file.
Hope this helps!

Denis,

One of the easiest and handieast graphic file viewers that can rezize with variable compression is Irfanview for PC's, and it is Freeware! It is also very fast and compact!

Thanks for the replies. Warren, I downloaded the software on your post, but when I tried to submit a file, (pictures), it is asking me for all kinds of info, like company name, license on software, etc. Maybe I clicked on the wrong thing.
