Question Position of fuel pressure accumulator

Any reason why the fuel pressure accumulator is positioned in the engine compartment of the 911? Why not put it next to the fuel pump under the nose of the car? It's a heavy piece of metal that could have been on the other side of the rear axle, two feet lower down.

Come to think of it - the same goes for the fuel filter. When filled up, it's another 200 or 300 grams that could have been removed from the rear.

Or not?

I think the reason that the underside of the pressure regulator sits flat against the intake manifold to help stabalize the bi-metal strip inside the pressure regulator. The control pressure regulator is usually loacated on the engine block so that the engine block temp can affect the position of the bimetal strip.

I remember reading this somewhere.

It could be because it was just easier from a production standpoint. That's the location of where the filter and regulator was on the MFI motors that preceeded it were. Which of course brings up the question of why did they put it there on those cars?

My guess would be the items were located based first on ease of access for maintenance and second to protect them from road debris and chemicals. Jim
