Auxilary oil temp gauge
I would like to add an additional oil temperature gauge and replace the stock unit in my 80 911 sc. I am looking at the VDO Pt.# 310-012-M82 0-300 DEG. F.gauge from Pelican and the 323-055-M82 sender. Do I need to replace the stock sender, and if so will the new sender be long enough to provide an accurate temperature reading? The Probe end looks to be quite a bit shorter than the stock unit I have per the vendor lit. Can I still use the existing wire back to the gauge in the console?
Thanks for any help. Chuck

The sender needs to match the guage. Once the sender is in the oil, weather long or short, should read proper temp.
If you replaced the existing wire with another wire how is anything going to change? Bruce |

You swap the gauge and sender....done. If you want a fail safe, shoot the oil lines and tank with a hand held pyrometer. They are cheap.
Handheld Infrared Thermometers | Instrumart Good for tire temps as well.
