Heat Backdate Question on SC
For any of you who did the heat backdate on your SC, what did you do with the old heater hose connection on the rear tin? As you can see in the photo below, I got the piece that goes on the left side tin for the hose to pass through, so I don't intend on using the old connection.

I didn't buy that piece of engine tin. I just used 2 pieces of hose for the left (driver's) side. I connected 1 hose from the fan outlet to the old tube coming out of the tin. Then I connected second hose from the underside of that pipe to the heat exchanger.

Matt,
For the formerly useful heater duct, just cap it by whatever means works. Don't leave it open -- it will be a path for the engine fan to draw dirty air from under the engine. |

Just covered mine with some black heavy duty tape. Seems to be holding up fine.

I just connected the flexible tubing up to the existing pipe going through the tin. It makes a bit of a turn, but works just fine.
I didn't buy the new piece of tin with the hole through it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320333577.jpg |
I work in construction. So today I found a cap that the electricians use to cover abandonned holes. It seems to be the right size. So hopefully it will work. I painted it black and will try it later.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320334424.jpg

I think my idea worked pretty good. Here are the results.

A can's cap , cutted , black , is perfect to do a cap for this hole.

I just bought used tin from a dismantler and powdercoated it. If you have the engine out of the car, why not? The tin can be had fairly cheep. I guess its a personal call on how much detail you want to get into.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320411399.jpg

BTW is there a trick to attaching the heater hoses. I am having a problem getting them connected to both ends. I have the brown hose like you. |
Cut the hose to the required length without the tin in place. Now slide the tin on the hose to the approx. finished position. Attach the heater hose, both ends simultaneous. Slide the tin into position and secure.
Hope this helps. |

Matt
I barely reconized anything... is that a 3.0? On mine (3.2) there was no bracket. |

Phew, I tough I was loosing it...
It does not help when I'm 7605 miles (and 1 month) away from from the car :mad::mad: If it was not for PP I woulg go nuts :) |
Is that just tape on the old fan wires? You need to fold and heat shrik those as they can still be energized by the controller in the cabin.
The bracket on my 3.0 came off with the fan so I can't help you there. You could just leave it there in case you want to go back to stock configuration some day. |

As far as the bracket , my fan support is gone (sold). Do you not have this condition on your car? Do you have a 78 or 79? Maybe that is the difference? |
Yeah, that piece isn't on the '78-'79 so I didn't have to deal with it. It looks like it would be pretty simple to fabricate a bracket out of a hunk of aluminum flat stock (1/2" x 1/8" or something). Just make an L shape coming up from the stud below.

a krylon cap and a hose clamp.

I built a bracket out of aluminum from Lowes just as described above.
