I do it every day in the same spot on my way to work (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5k ish in 4th before I have to mash on the brake and practice some heal toe into 2nd). I don't try to spin the tires but am hitting 7,000 RPMs in 1st - 3rd. No ill effects and if you cant have fun with it why own it.

Right on Chris, I do the same thing everyday!
I hit the Redline in first all the time, shift into second is never a problem.

I typically do not redline 1st, but all other gears are fair game. I take the frontage and back roads into work and back and get into some twisties and fairly high speed straights, as well. I make it a point to run to redline, at least once or twice ......each way...it's fun.

Redline it in 3rd, that's where it gets real fun!

One of my favorites is when rolling out of a parking lot or a turn from a stop is to roll out easy until the revs are up to about 4K in 1st and in the middle of the turn punch it! Right in the power band, it screams to redline as I'm steering through a nice controlled power slide. It's a blast!

I rarely take it to redline in 1st - I agree with the 5K shift. But this is in an SC where there in no real need to go above 5500... Maybe when I change cams one day :)

The older cars come alive above 5k RPM's. The first three gears come and go in seconds. 4th is the frist one that is sustained and causes my grip on the steering wheel to tighten. Redline in 4th is 120 mph and there is still 5th :-)
