Hey John Walker
Got to ask....since your an american Iron guy tooooo.
I was looking at the numbers today...comparing 66mm, 70.4mm cranks and rods. short stroke rods are 130mm c-c and big end of 61 mm and 22mm wrist pin. long stroke (70.4) rods are 127.8mm c-c and 56 big end also 22mm wrist. It seems to me you could offset grind the 66mm crank to end up with a 68.5mm crank and use the 127.8mm rods. You would even have a fraction of a mm on the dome to remove as desired to improve compression ratio. Do you know of this being done, or is it a case of not worth while compared with just starting off with a bigger engine. This is typical american iron stuff, no, like in flatheads and other v-8's. Seems to me one could have an awfully bulletproof midsize engine for a comparably cheap cost using stock pistons. What do you think? Dennis H. 72 911E 66mm crank on the brain |
