Engine sound pad: replace, reglue, or remove?
 

Hey guys,

The engine sound pad on the car I just bought (1988 911) is sagging pretty good. I was contimplating re-gluing it, or replacing it with a new one, but then I was thinking of just ripping the whole thing out! If I remove it, will there be a (significant) raise in the cabin noise, or any other negative aspects? What would you guys recommend?

I removed mine before the repaint.
Absolutely LOVE the sound. It's just right with the muffler of your choice. No passenger complaints so far.

I had the same problem with my 87. I tried to reglue but it didn't work. If your pad is like mine, the reason it's sagging is because the pad material has come away from the backing that is glued to the car. Time and heat made my pad material really crumbly so the glue did not work. I replaced mine but if I had to do over, I would tear it out and find out if I could live with the increased sound.
Are you finding little pad crumbs in your engine compartment? If so, I would tear it out and drive it for awhile and see if you like the sound.

Take it out. Does nothing but cover the engine noise and to tell ya the truth my 83 SC u couldnt even tell a difference or i couldnt.. And nothing wrong with a lil flat 6 music.. Dont need it. Take out is all im saying

Thanks for the input. It looks like the general consensus is that it is useless, and wouldn't be worth the effort to replace, so out it comes!

Question,If the mat is removed, isn't the heat from the engine compartment going to transfer into the cab ? It's damn hot in FL. & the AC is working to the max already http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...sun_smiley.gif

I have a 72. Mine was sagging like crazy. I took it out. When I did it was full of moisture which rusted out part the sheet metal that it was glued to. I scapped all the the glue off and undercoated it. Looks and sounds great. If your worried about heat, don't! If your really worried, summit racing has adhesive reflective rolls that you can cut to size and place where you want. Reflects heat up to 1200 degrees. I applied it to the back side of my rs bumper so as to not melt the paint off from the heat of the muffler.

Can the pad be removed with the engine in place?

Can be removed with engine in. Make sure engine is covered because when i took mine off it flaked all over the place
