Mystery Hose behind Filter Box
 

Took the filter box off to do the sound pad installation and came across this mystery hose lying there disconnected. PO had installed a K&N cone filter, so I'd guess based on the hose's length and location it was originally attached to the filter box. Part of the vacuum system?

Appears to be a 3.2 engine. Hose goes to the charcoal canister in the wheel well. Either plug it or find a vacuum port in the filter neck to hook it up.

It goes to the activated carbon canister in the passenger side wheel well (assuming you have a Carrera). It's part of the gas tank ventilation system. Shame on you for spewing nasty hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. ;) I've got mine plugged after it kept spewing activated carbon into my air box.

Yeah, sorry, 3.2 Carrera. No hook up on the existing filter assembly that I can find. I'll plug it and leave it be if that acceptable.

I remember someone's post about the carbon mice turds in the filter a couple months back now that I think of it.

I'll play the devil's advocate... This isn't just some useless emissions system. It pulls off gas fumes from the fuel system and vents them to the intake. Without the system in place or plugged, you could get gas fumes in the car or more likely in your garage. Yes, you can safely plug it. You could just as easily find a way to hook it back in the intake.

I'd read up and make an informed decision. There are quire a few threads about this. Here's a recent one...

If you have the OEM air box there is a nipple to plug it in. If you have a cone filter, PO may have not installed the proper adaptor with the nipple fitment. You can tap a brass 3/8" barbed to the side of the adaptor for the cone filter to properly utilize that hose as designed.

Now as far as rat turd from it, take caution, if you do get bits of charcoal pellets thru it your canister foam barrier has discinergrated and will go into your intake. If that is the case, find a inline filter to catch the pellets and then another line to hook up to the adaptor.

A friend of mine 87 had a canister leak and it pour pellets into his OEM airbox and out his modded exhaust, basically he only had a Cat, no muffler. It was spewing red embers when he accelerated hard and even stalled on him at Willow on turn 4.
