Carrera TPS or on/off Switch
Is this a throttle position sensor or just a switch?

I believe just a switch. One is an idle switch and the other is WOT (Wide Open Throttle). But I'll let the experts chime in...

After looking at the Bentley manual the red part is the Full Throttle switch (same as WOT I guess) .

It's not bad as far as I know.
I am working on using a Carrera manifold assembly with a Megasquirt ECU. I was hoping that the device was a TPS so that I would have to fabricate something else... Well, I had nothing else to do this weekend.

You could find out with a meter. If it has a variable scale rather than open/closed, you'd have what you need, correct? I'm still trying to understand these OBDI cars, but many (other makes and models) seem to have a TPS(ensor) rather than just a switch. But, the air flow device may be responsible for the signals needed by the DME in this case.
The diagram in the Bentley shows only a set of contacts in the TPS. |

I'm pretty certain it is only a switch. Took one apart years`ago. Had two sets on contacts. One was for idle and the other for WFO. Input to the DME for idle circuit and full throttle maps.

I ran an Ohm check on the device looking (expecting) for the variable resistance. When it didn't manifest itself I went to the PP forum. I called this afternoon and ordered the TPS from Clewitt. Jim S.

Jim, I used a tps from a 95 993. it was simple to make a mount for the tb and is readily available. I can send you the info if you want.

I used a Bosch TPS part# 0 280 120 400 000
I don't know what it's supposed to fit, but it works on my Carrera intake.

No, I think it's 6 pin, but I think I only used 3 wires.

okay...this sounds like the same item that Clewett Engineering is sending. The TPS uses the first 3 pins the remaining 3 are for WOT and throttle closed. Thanks for the info!

Old thread, I know, just cleaning up...
 Bosch part number 0 280 120 400 is the 6 pin TPS from an '86-'89 944 Turbo which is commonly used when converting the 3.2 Motronic system to an aftermarket ECU which requires a variable output from the TPS. This part is also offered by our gracious host under Porsche part number 951-606-113-00-M14 This is a direct bolt on to replace the 3 pin throttle switch on the side of the 3.2 TB. |
