Another G50 Wevo Shifter and PSJ Coupling Upgrade \ Install - Pics!
A little late to the party here gang, as I know alot of you have done this install but wanted to share my experience. The entire install is straight forward and took about 3 hours with the simplest hand tools and if you can change your oil you can tackle this, the car is my '89. It must be straight forward as the Wevo shifter and the PSJ shifter do not come with any instructions..laughing.
I looked at the Hargett shifter as well but too cabin intrusive for me, would look at home in a dedicated track car not so much on my car which is a pure street car. The trickiest part for me was removing the center console and the harnesses for the hazard lights, rear defroster, power locks and the HVAC fan motors. Heck I even found about $2 in coins under the console including a dollar coin during the process..! Here are the pics. A great reference before beginning: ![]() Stock shifter, center console and the harnesses as described above removed: ![]() You can see the shifter rod peering through here: ![]() Access plate on tunnel under the carpet right in front of the rear tunnel that has to be removed to access the flange for the coupling ![]() Underneath the car (not a great picture) showing the 13mm bolt that has to be removed to separate the coupling from the shift linkage to the transmission ![]() OEM coupling with the 13mm bolt from the previous picture removed: ![]() Wevo PSJ vs OEM couplings side by side, I wish the Wevo unit was aluminum like the OEM piece: ![]() Wevo PSJ Coupling installed: ![]() Wevo shifter and their really neat SL lightweight shift knob installed: ![]() As many of you have done this upgrade have already stated, the shift throw is much shorter and crisper and very precise. The shifting has a very "mechanical feel" to it and much much improved over stock. I am looking forward to driving the car and feeling the difference with rowing through the gears. Regards - Yasin

Thank you! I'm in the process of this install right now but stalled because i have destroyed the new shift rod bushing provided with I have tried the hot water method but now it's too deformed and does not stay secure. How did you install yours?

I have the Wevo on a G50 car. The shifting action when driving is far more precise. My first 1-2 shift made me wonder if I did the right thing as it was so different. The next, 2-3, cleared up any doubts. It just snick snicked into place, like it wanted to be there.
The shifter is certainly a precision instrument. Like someone had said to me, it's like a rifle bolt, and I completely agree. The throw is just so accurate. The lever feels a bit more weighted than before, due to the shorter throw, but it is hardly a negative. To answer Phil's question, the factory vinyl boot on the console does fit over the mechanism. If you were using just the factory rubber boot on the floor (no console), it probably wouldn't. I chose the "classic" lever so that it would appear stock and use the original shift knob which was new. Without knowing what to look for, it appears just like it did before the swap. The only thing that might give it away is the slight bump to the rear of the boot. Sorry I don't have any pics right now. Car's all under cover, snuggled in the garage during our "welcome to winter" blizzard.
