MFI project
I don’t post much on this board, but I read and search the messages frequently. Thought I would share a project I’ve been working on and thank you all for the indirect help. I have a 914-6 but I thought I would post here because I installed an MFI equipped 2.5l (big bore, short stroke) engine, and read many MFI posts on this board in perpetration.. I bought the engine used. Pacific Fuel injection made a space cam for this motor/cam/intake set up. See some photos HERE . Just follow the Porsche Links. The hardest part was making the linkage and tuning things up (I used my Gastron CO tester) and I still don’t have things perfect. It runs very well! Awesome throttle response, neck snapping acceleration…
I’m having a hard time removing the grin from my face. Thanks! Mike |
Hey that's cool Mike. Beautiful motor; glad the MFI runs well.
What year Cooper is your black mini? I've got a 66 Austin Cooper in tartan/black so share your enthusiasm for the little beasts! ------------------ '72 911 TE |
It is a 64 Cooper. 1275, high compression, roller rockers, weber 40 side draft, disk brakes(f), mini fins(r) 13 inch wheels. A great little (very little) car. Revolutionary car for it's time.

Mike, that's an awesome looking motor. I've never driven in an earlier MFI car but it sounds like I'm missing out!

Mike - Looks like a sweet car! I am currently planning a 914/6 race car buildup, not too different from yours. What case/core was your motor built up on?
I am still reading up on class regs. etc but I will probably end up with something between a 2.4-2.8 The 2.5 short stroke sounds interesting...very quick revving I bet. ------------------ Chris C. 73 914 2.0 70 911E Targa campbell.chris@gte.net |
It’s an early magnesium case, It is not a 7R, but this motor will not put out the power of a 2.7 or bigger motor and I’ve read where this case should handle up to 280 hp or more. It has the squirters and all the windage mods, big oil pump. It is very high compression (12.75:1 JE pistons) using GE-60 cams. It seems to just screem, but I’ve only just got it in and running, not much play time, and fine tuning. It Idles well, and doesn’t seem to want to foul the plugs (I’m using 114 octane gas). Time will tell if the case is strong enough…
