Mysterious lock

Was cleaning the 82sc last weekend and found what appears to be a lock/key hole in the driverside door in the jam on the door above the catch mechanism. The ignition key fits it but does not turn. Sorry no pics. Any ideas?

Possibly factory alarm or immobiliser. Maybe disconected now

The lock is for the factory alarm system. It was always delivered with its own key. The alarm control unit is under the front hood. The Bentley SC Service Manual describes how to reach it... I think you need to disassemble some parts near the cold/warm air intake on the passenger's side. The unit may look like the one on the photo below. You should search the pelican BBS for information about the factory alarm. Hope this helps.

It's definitely for the factory alarm. If you want a key made for it, you'll have to take the door panel off, remove the cylinder & replace it immediately with a keyed replacement you can get from Tony Euganeo. Back in July of 2000, he sent me a keyed replacement for $38.00. Had to send him the old "core". You should be able to read about this alarm system in your car manual. His number is 610-461-0519.
regards,
jlex.
