964 seatbelt and airbag warning lights

Is there a way to reset these lights without an expensive instrument? The lights come on about once a year, and all the dealer does is reset (evidently the error code does not indicate a problem that requires correction).

Did you figure this one out? I have the same problem. If anyone has a solution, please post.

Thanks, Neil. I posted there and got an immediate response, which I'll share:

Interesting question. The only way to reset these units yourself is to
disconect the battery and leave disconnected for five minutes. However there
is a catch to this. Once you reconnect the battery you have to start the 911
and go for a drive without shutting the engine down and not spending too
much time at idle for at least 15mins. All control units will havebeen reset
including the DME, this is why you need togo for a drive to allow it to
reprogram the fuel schedules.
A trip to your local mechanic with the Bosch Hammer and the "Correct"
software to reset the fault codes in the airbag control unit means you do
not have to worry about these things.
For the airbag control unit I recommend a Bosch Hammer. However before you
do this make sure you check the connectors.
You should also be aware that the problem can also be the clock itself. A
rare but known problem and the only solution is to replace the clock. You
have to also understand that whilst intermittant airbag warn lights are a
known problem, the 964 could actually be telling you, you have a problem.
The Bosch hammer will reveal all if you have a genuine airbag problem where
as the self reset will not. Something else to keep in mind. The
manufacturers age limit for airbags is 15 years. As they age airbags start
to lose pressure,

there is mention of that "bosch hammer" again. that is what john walker said i need to bleed the brakes properly on a 964. what the heck is it and how does it work? does anyone have one. it seems to do alot of stuff. it reminds me of Dr. Who's sonic screwdriver.
