550 Spyder Replica

This car is currently up on eBay - nice, but I could do wihtout the Speedster humps on a SPYDER.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1816247127.

Hate to admit it, but CaliforniaClassix had a nicer one for sale last week.

Yep, my Vintage has the SINGLE headrest and I don't even like that, let alone TWO. The EBAY car looks pretty nice, otherwise (altho the bright red interior is not my personal favorite).

They look great. But when is someone going to start making a 906 recreation? I would think that it should be fairly straight forward.

I've wondered the same thing. I'm ready, if you ever hear of one...

Cool

That really is a very pretty car, even with the 2 headrests. And the auction price, at least now, is lower than the price of a new one, especially with the bigger engine. Too bad we just got 5 inches of snow and it's 20 degrees here in sunny Detroit.

Rumor has it that Beck is developing a 904, and I think there was a recent article in Pano or Excellence about a British firm making a 904. Nothing on 906's, though...

I looked at the one from California Classic. Notice what it went for, thats to high! Also notice the high bidder had 0 feedback. Another ebay seller's scam (I think). Either that or the high bidder will just dissapear. I think the humps add a little to it, look at them with and without. I would only want them if they were removable.

Trying to find that issue of 911&PorscheWorld; couple of months back an article on 904 replica. Someone in GB IS making one, it is incredible, price about $80,000 if I remember, compared w/ $4-500,000 for the real thing.

904 replica

Jack Beck himself is the one in the US working on a 904 car. It is not as faithful as the 550, however, but the departures have justification. It's tube-frame and designed to take a 911 engine, and I think 911 brakes and transmission. A little larger, too, I think. Projected price of $70,000 +/-.

Yeah, the world needs more 904 and 906 replicas!

Once upon a time, I was interested in making a 906 replica. The factory was very helpful and sent me a blueprint of the spaceframce chassis, some original factory archive pictures and a copy of the owner's manual (in German). I have also accumulated a bunch of literature and photos of 906's. If anyone is serious about making a 906 replica, I would be happy to share the information I have.

Yes, Chuck Beck has a 904 in development, although i am not sure of its current state. There was a recent thread about it on www.Spyderclub.com that you might check out.

The 904 replica in Excellence a couple of months back is produced by Martin & Walker in the UK. A friend of mine in the UK who has seen it in person says it rocks (which is pretty much what the Excellence ariticle concluded).

160HP and 1400 lbs. Replica or not, I bet it is a hoot to drive.
